Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) has issued an apology following a technical error that caused Instagram users to encounter a surge of graphic and violent content in their Reels feeds. On Wednesday, numerous users reported seeing disturbing videos, including depictions of killings and cartel violence, despite these videos being labeled as “sensitive content.” A Meta spokesperson stated, “We have fixed an error that caused some users to see content in their Instagram Reels feed that should not have been recommended. We apologize for the mistake.” This incident has raised concerns about Meta’s content moderation policies, especially after the company replaced third-party fact-checkers in the U.S. with a community notes model in January.
As of 10:38 AM EST on February 27, 2025, Meta’s stock is trading at $673.63, reflecting a decrease of $0.07 (0.01%) from the previous close.
